Today, we are moving beyond confidence as a feeling and establishing it as a Moral Obligation. A duty. In the CBC, we focus on action steps over mere discussion. If you have value (and you do), refusing to display it isn't "humility"—it might be a failure of your duty to help.
Imagine you’re in a restaurant and someone starts choking. They put their hands on their throat showing the universal sign that they can’t breathe. Terrifying indeed. Everyone in the restaurant is afraid and stressed but some actually know CPR, including you. In that moment, you have an obligation to act despite being scared or stressed. This is the second truth about confidence.
THE EVIDENCE: Why You Must Be And Act With Confidence
Moral Imperative #1: Confidence Enables Action (The "Stop Hesitating" Clause)
Without confidence, we hesitate. And when we hesitate, we fail to act.
In the military, inaction compromises the mission. In your life, inaction kills opportunities because they aren’t stationary targets that will wait for you. This inaction doesn’t just keep you small; it can actually harm others (like the choking person in the restaurant needing your help) or prevent good things from happening (like your children or students getting to learn from someone as uniquely amazing as you).
Action is more productive than how you might feel at any moment. “Do” outranks “feel”.
Moral Imperative #2: Confidence Fulfills Responsibility (The "Stop Hoarding Your Gift" Clause)
We all have unique skills that we have a responsibility to contribute to the world. Confidence isn't about bragging. It’s about stewardship. A lack of confidence prevents you from fulfilling your actual duty. Think about the enjoyment that a Hershey’s chocolate bar has brought to millions of people. If Milton S. Hershey never acted to create and master that chocolate bar, the world would be missing out on the enjoyment, the billions in revenue, and thousands of jobs The Hershey Company has created. One persistent fulfillment of confidence-billions of lives positively impacted.
